More about the course

Overview

This four-week mindfulness meditation for body compassion workshop is an invitation to explore a regular meditation practice within a supportive community that meets each week to practice and learn together. Whether or not you’re new to the practice of mindfulness or new to the concept of body compassion, I hope you’ll join this class. Mindfulness meditation can be a powerful tool for connecting with embodied wisdom, and this course provides clear instructions and in-depth training on a variety of meditation strategies as well as ideas for disrupting the social hierarchy of bodies.

Audience

I am a fat-positive mindfulness teacher. This is a space that welcomes people in bodies of all shapes and sizes who are curious about mindfulness but may be wary of diet culture. Class participants commit to abide by the agreements of this group, which prioritize the safety of the most marginalized bodies and reduce diet culture noise.

The hierarchy of bodies in our culture means that there are material obstacles to healthcare, employment and so much more for anyone outside of a narrow band of “acceptability.” Information about working with these dynamics and how to disrupt them are included in this course.

Sliding Scale Fee Exchange: It is important to me to make this offering financially accessible for anyone who wants to learn about body compassion. A “standard” workshop fee of $150 is the recommendation for those who are financially secure enough to afford it, and it can be paid in one or two installations. For those in financial abundance, a larger donation will help to make this course accessible for those experiencing financial hardship. Participants can also enroll with a “pay-what-you-can” donation based on their individual financial circumstances. What you pay is based on your own assessments of your budget and what is possible for you. If you need a full fee-waiver in order to attend this workshop, just mark that you want a pay-what you can spot and write “waiver.”

  • You couldn't have a better or more welcoming, warm, caring instructor! You learn so much about what meditation practice is and how it can help you.

  • Learning a gentler approach to self-compassion: that I am not failing if I cannot jump straight to loving myself wholly and deeply, that it is enough to have the intention that someday I may. Very helpful for someone like me who believes that if I am not scoring 110% on something then I am failing… I didn’t know what to expect and joined at the last minute, and I’m so glad I did!

  • The class felt so safe and so warmly comforting!
